Tunza Africa

Tunza Africa is a nonprofit registered in Tanzania under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act of 2002 with registration number 00NGO/R/4485. At Tunza Africa, we focus on environmental conservation, economic empowerment, and the fight against hunger and malnutrition in Africa.

At Tunza Africa, our approach is different, we focus on both the people and the environment, ensuring the improvement of people’s livelihoods and the long-term conservation and sustainability of the natural African environment.

Moringa – Farmers coaching project

Impact: 1000 Farmers

A farmers coaching project implemented in Endamarariek ward in Karatu- Tanzania centered around re-introducing indigenous plants such as Moringa which are highly nutritious and coaching farmers step by step from planting, taking care of plants, harvestings, selling and processing to make different products. Demonstration farm plots have been established in Bassodawish and Endamrariek Tanzania and farmers have been re-introduced to plants such as Moringa, Chaya, Rosemary, Aloe vera, hebiscuss, chia, e.t.c

Aimed first at combating malnutrition through introduction of highly nutritious plants secondly is aimed combating climate change and environmental conservation through planting trees and introduction of better farming practices. Thirdly is aimed at economic empowerment of farmers through sell of re-introduced plants, better farming products and through processing of products.

The project is implemented in partnership with JS Foundation and KSDI

Food Forest Project

Impact: 18 Schools

A two phase project implemented in Eighteen Schools of Qurus ward in Karatu Tanzania. The first phase being installing rain water harvest and water storage infrastructure and facilities. Second phase involves establishing Food forests in school which is planting trees and establishing vegetable gardens in school. This project solves water shortage problem in schools, address nutrition and climate issues through planting trees.

This project is implemented in partnership with JS Foundation, KSDI and Vlams Brabant (Beligium province)

Women Empowerment Project

Impact: 8 Villages

Eight women groups are established in eight villages and are empowered with both knowledge and resources to undertake different economic activities for the purpose of their own economic freedom. These groups are trained and empowered to make products such as soaps, Moringa powder, Batik fabric. These groups save as saving groups and micro credit groups where they save and lend among each other. 

This project is implemented in partnership with JS Foundation.
